•  The first B. Sc. Electronics batch passed out in June 1987. Hence forth the Department of Electronics has flourished as one of the leading department in Science Faculty.

•  Dr. A. M. Sankpal was the founder head of the department. He played a key role in developing the department. He served the department since 1984 to 2013 for almost 29 years.

•  Dr. A. M. Sankpal was BOS Chairman of Electronics. He took lots of efforts to update the curriculum time to time and make it equivalent to that of Diploma Engineering in Electronics. Because of the updated curriculum the students find jobs in industry and the number of students opting Electronics at the final year increased.

•  After the sad demise of Dr. A. M. Sankpal in July 2013, Dr. A. M. Shaikh, one of the senior faculties took the charge as Head of the department.

•  Sine 2013 to 2022, Dr. A. M. Shaikh is shouldering the responsibility of head of the department.

•  Dr. A. M. Shaikh elected unopposed as BOS Chairman of ‘Electronics Sciences, Electronics Engineering and Technology’ of Shivaji University, Kolhapur in March 2018 as per new act of MPUA 2016.

•  He played a key role in implementing Choice Based Credit System (CBCS) to Science Faculty as well as to B. Sc. Electronics Programme.

•  After taking the charge as Head, Dr. A. M. Shaikh is continuously taking efforts to update the department infrastructure such as replacing old tube lights by new LED tube lights, replacing old wooden tables by granite plat forms; converting B. Sc. III lab into ICT enabled class room and creating a separate computer lab for students etc.

•  Dr. A. M. Shaikh was instrumental in fetching a grant of Rs. 7 Lakh for running “COC IT” a Career Oriented Course in Information Technology by UGC, Delhi.

•  This Career Oriented Course was successfully run from June 2008 to May 2015 under the department of Electronics at all the three levels viz.  Certificate Course in IT, Diploma in IT and Advanced Diploma in IT.

•  Students opted these courses in large numbers and the college has received Rs. 5 Lakh in the form of fees from the students.

•  After completing these three courses some students were placed in IT as trainee software engineers.

•  During last 13 consecutive years Department of Electronics in coordination with Department of Computer Science (BCS) organize “New Horizon” a university level IT competition.

•  June 2022, Dr. A.M. Sheikh was elected as the Principal of Yashwantrao Chavan Warna College Warnanagar.

•  Sine 2022 to till date, Dr. K. D. Atar is shouldering the responsibility of inchargehead of the department.

•  From June 2022, Dr. K. D. Atar started the incubation centre in the Department of Electronics, Under incubation centre, Made the electronic kits and electronic projects of B.Sc.II & III Year Students. Since 2022 Every year our student got more than 5 ranks in Avishkar and other College Competitions.

•  In 2024, Got Cash prize of 100000/- to ‘Agriculture Robot', and another Cash prize of 100000/- to 'Headphone controlled wheelchair’ in Maharashtra State Student Innovation Challenge Competition, by Hasan Mushrif, Guardian Minister of Kolhapur District. Both electronics models are made in incubation centre the new college Kolhapur.

•  The department has five full time/contributory teaching staff and three supporting staff.

Best Practices

1. Under innovation and incubation centre making of electronic practical kits, smart LED board making, PCB making etc.

Innovation and Incubation Centres provide a platform for students and start-ups to work on practical, tech-driven projects. Department of Electronics focuses on some key areas like development of practical kits, smart LED boards, and printed circuit boards (PCBs).

Objective : The main objective of this activity to develop electronical environment for students to prepare educational kits, Smart LED Boards and Printed Circuit Boards which is useful for students for future endeavors in industries.

Target Audience : This activity is conducted for B.Sc. II and III Electronics students to get hands on experience to design and develop electronics circuits.

Duration : Students works on this throughout the year in Innovation and startup cell Department of Electronics

2. Develop industry level electronic projects.

Developing industry-level electronic projects by students involves guiding them through hands-on, real-world challenges that meet professional standards. These projects often focus on solving practical problems in fields like automation, healthcare, renewable energy, or consumer electronics. Department of Electronics continuously motivate B.Sc. II and III students to develop advance industry level project to fulfil social needs based on technology.

Objective : To Develop industry-level electronic projects by students involves guiding them through hands-on, real-world challenges that meet professional standards.

Target Audience : This activity is conducted for B.Sc. II and III Electronics students.

Duration : Students works on this throughout the year

3. Student Seminars using ICT.

In our Department of Electronics, we believe in providing creative and a dynamic learning environment where students actively engage with staff members. One key aspect of this engagement is the delivery of seminars on various topics. Student seminars help students develop public speaking and effective communication skills, which are crucial for academic and professional success. Conducting student seminars provides a well-rounded educational experience that blends knowledge, skills, and personal development, making them a key part of higher education. Integrating ICT (Information and Communication Technology) into student seminars can greatly enhance the learning experience Incorporating ICT into student seminars makes them more interactive, accessible, and engaging. It fosters collaboration, improves research capabilities, and prepares students for the tech-driven future, providing them with valuable skills for academic and professional success.

4. Skill course of ‘Hands on training of Robotics’

This skill course on "Hands-on Training of Robotics" is designed by Department of Electronics to provide students with practical experience and technical knowledge to build, program, and control robots for various applications. The course integrates mechanical, electrical, and software aspects of robotics to give a holistic understanding of the field. This "Hands-on Training of Robotics" course will not only provide technical skills but will also stimulate creative thinking, encouraging students to innovate and explore the endless possibilities within the field of robotics.

Objective : The course is designed to provide participants with a practical understanding of robotics, covering the basics of robotic systems, programming, and real-world applications. By the end of the course, participants will have the skills necessary to design, build, and program basic robots for various applications.

Target Audience : This activity is conducted for B.Sc. II Electronics students.

Duration : 3 Months.

5. Special presentation training for various research and project competition.

The students of Electronics Department actively participated in various competitions like Avishkar, Project competitions in various institutes, Poster Presentation competitions etc. This activity gives students effectively prepare and deliver presentations for various competitions and other academic or professional events. The focus will be on enhancing both the content and delivery of presentations to engage judges, peers, and professionals while showcasing their work confidently.
