Brief History of the Department


The Department of Botany is established in the year 1976. Department offers a specialized B.Sc. program in Botany since its inception. Interdisciplinary subject plant protection is offered at B. Sc. I and II which is approved by the state government. Department is upgraded with M. Phil. and Ph. D. Program in 2014 and M. Sc. in 2019. The department has four recognized research guides. Number of research students are awarded with Ph.D. The department has well equipped laboratories with notable instruments like, Spectrophotometer, Laminar Air Flow, BOD Incubator, etc. The herbarium in the department is internationally recognized as NCK which contains more than 2000 herbaria.  The department has well established Botanical Garden with more than 250 species of lower and higher plants.


To develop new generation with competency in the field of Plant Sciences


Motivate the students to acquire and apply the knowledge of Botany in day to day life.
