• The Department of Electronics was established in June 1984 to start with B. Sc. Part – I.
• B. Sc. Part – II & III were introduced in June 1985 & 1986 respectively.
• The first B. Sc. Electronics batch passed out in June 1987. Hence forth the Department of Electronics has flourished as one of the leading department in Science Faculty.
• Dr. A. M. Sankpal was the founder head of the department. He played a key role in developing the department. He served the department since 1984 to 2013 for almost 29 years.
• Dr. A. M. Sankpal was BOS Chairman of Electronics. He took lots of efforts to update the curriculum time to time and make it equivalent to that of Diploma Engineering in Electronics. Because of the updated curriculum the students find jobs in industry and the number of students opting Electronics at the final year increased.
• After the sad demise of Dr. A. M. Sankpal in July 2013, Dr. A. M. Shaikh, one of the senior faculties took the charge as Head of the department.
• Sine 2013 till date Dr. A. M. Shaikh is shouldering the responsibility of head of the department.
• Dr. A. M. Shaikh elected unopposed as BOS Chairman of ‘Electronics Sciences, Electronics Engineering and Technology’ of Shivaji University, Kolhapur in March 2018 as per new act of MPUA 2016.
• He played a key role in implementing Choice Based Credit System (CBCS) to Science Faculty as well as to B. Sc. Electronics Programme.
• After taking the charge as Head, Dr. A. M. Shaikh is continuously taking efforts to update the department infrastructure such as replacing old tube lights by new LED tube lights, replacing old wooden tables by granite plat forms; converting B. Sc. III lab into ICT enabled class room and creating a separate computer lab for students etc.
• Dr. A. M. Shaikh was instrumental in fetching a grant of Rs. 7 Lakh for running “COC IT” a Career Oriented Course in Information Technology by UGC, Delhi.
• This Career Oriented Course was successfully run from June 2008 to May 2015 under the department of Electronics at all the three levels viz. Certificate Course in IT, Diploma in IT and Advanced Diploma in IT.
• Students opted these courses in large numbers.
• The college has received Rs. 5 Lakh in the form of fees from the students.
• After completing these three courses some students were placed in IT as trainee software engineers.
• During last 13 consecutive years Department of Electronics in coordination with Department of Computer Science (BCS) organize “New Horizon” a university level IT competition.
• The department has eight full time/contributory teaching staff and three supporting staff.
