Brief History of the Department

Establishment : 1971

General Information about Department: - Department of sociology established under the headship of Dr. R. B. Jadhav who is well-known intellectual personality. Department has 1257 reference books and more than 500 textbooks available in the central library. Departmental enrollment is always high and department has a great tradition of result. Department organizes various activities for students overall development.

Vision:
To develop student by value based quality education with commitment to their ethical and multidimensional development which will contribute towards their educational, social and economical well being.
To be a department of high repute with regard to research, application and transmission of knowledge in social science to promote social development.

Achievements

Special Achievements of Dept:
  1. Department of Sociology, has organized one day State Level Conference on ‘Social Movements in India: Contribution and Challenges on 7th March 2015.
  2. Department of Sociology has successfully organized ICSSR sponsored two days National Seminar on ‘Marginal Communities in India: Problems and Solutions’, on 21st & 22nd January, 2016.
  3. Students of the Department of Sociology had got 10000/- Rs. Grant from the Shivaji University, Kolhapur for doing research under the ‘Research Sensitization Scheme for college Students.’ Our Students did a research on ‘Problems of Waste Picker women in Kolhapur city: A Sociological Study.’
